A Harsh Melody

WINTER’S SONG

Like a crazed banshee, the bitter wind moaned,
while snow coated limbs until the trees groaned,
branches thrashed windows in cacophony —
a harsh melody that winter intoned.

DAY DREAMS

I’d like to write enough to use
Words dancing in my head,
With all the things I have to say –
said.

I’d like to have a million bucks,
And spend it as I thought,
With all the things I’ve wished to buy –
bought.

I wish that all delicious food
Would not increase my weight,
With all the things I like to eat –
ate.

I wish there was a tape somewhere
When my guitar’s re-strung,
With all the songs I love to sing –
sung.

I’d like to break old habits now,
Of writing-trends I’ve kept,
With all the missing hours of sleep –
slept.

If I could satisfy my dreams,
I hope I would not gloat,
With all the things I wish to write –
wrote.

A deep Abiding love

A MOMENT LONG AWAITED

He came to me last night
to tell me he was sorry.
As he held me close
he kissed away my tears,
and I could feel his heart
beating in harmony with my own.
He whispered assurances
of undying love,
and I whispered mine.
Then from out of nowhere
came the soft strains
of our favorite song,
and we danced as one,
lost in deep abiding love;
a moment long awaited.

 And then . . . I awakened.

EVENING CONCERT

At dusk I heard a mockingbird.
Three others heard
and joined in song,
their voices strong.
The concert lasted unto dark
there in the park.
I sat impressed,
my ears caressed
by stolen songs they sang so well,
casting their spell
before their flight,
that summer night.

WE COULD NOT HARMONIZE

Our song started beautifully

And was lovely for a time

Then, discordant notes changed the tune

And the words no longer rhyme

The melody had been lovely

The words were sweet and dear

That wonderful orchestration

Was the only thing we’d hear

The song was meant forever

But this was not to be

Because the notes that came from you

Fused not the ones from me

And so our song has ended

Though we tried to rhapsodize

We just could not attune ourselves

We could not harmonize

ONCE IN EVERY LIFETIME

Just once in every lifetime
Someone comes along
And hearts then blend in harmony
With words to love’s sweet song

Just once in every lifetime
Two hearts fill special roles
And fall in love from the start
As destined kindred souls

Just once in every lifetime
A union’s meant to be
When those hearts join and beat as one
For all eternity
