No one knows what each day holds

      It could be our last

The day that we must answer

      For actions of the past

If we could just see ahead

Might not we change our way

Or set a different course to take

      And toe the line today

Would we abstain from sinful ways

      And honor Him above

Would we attempt to do our best

And prove to Him, our love

Will we try His loving patience

       Because it does not wane

Do we really think our erring ways

       Do not cause Him pain

We are His children, that is true

And we should heed His rules

For the Heaven He has promised us

      Excludes all sinful fools

And when we’re gone, it’s much too late

      To say, “I will obey”

So live today as though ‘twas last

      And mend your erring way

Why don’t we say “I love you”

          More often than we do

It’s such a lovely phrase to use

          And lifts one’s spirits, too

Why don’t we spread some smiles around

          They don’t cost a thing

But they are worth a fortune

          Because of warmth they bring

Why not listen patiently

          When others have the floor

And clasp a hand in friendliness

          And show our interest more

And why not let others know

With acts that show we care

And pass our love all around

          So it spreads everywhere

God took things like gentleness,

True selflessness and love,

And patience and devotion,

Then He blessed them from above.

He added love of nurturing

And other virtues, too,

Then he grouped them all together,

And still was not quite through.

He needed someone special

In whom He could depend,

To keep intact these attributes

Of such a perfect blend.

As He watched women cradling

Infants to their breast

He instilled within their hearts,

These things He deemed the best.

A perfect benediction,

One unlike no other –

Then satisfied, He smiled, and said,

“Let mankind call her, Mother.”
