The Sweetest Kiss

HEAVEN IN A CHILD

I caught a glimpse of Heaven today
When a little child of three
Danced around my flower beds
With a look of blissful glee

I heard a bit of Heaven today
When she giggled while at play
Sounds I’ll carry in my heart
Forever and a day

I felt a bit of Heaven today
When she wooed me with her charms . . .
The sweetest kiss upon my cheek
And a hug from little arms

There’s Heaven in a little child
And you can see it, too
Just watch them with an open heart
That’s all you need to do

      IN HIS YOUTH

I wonder about the life He had

When Jesus was a little lad.

I wonder how He spent His day.

Was He a joyful child at play?

Did He play games and perhaps race,

And get some dirt upon His face?

I’ve often wondered, might it be

That He once played like you and me.

Did He go fishing in the creek

And get a sunburn on His cheek?

Was there a dog to love and pet?

Was there a chore He’d oft’ forget?

I wonder if He climbed a tree,

And if He fell and scraped His knee.

When He got bruises while at play,

Did He have Mom kiss tears away?

In His excitement did He shout,

When He played tag and ran about.

Did He like frogs and bugs and toads

And barefoot walks on dusty roads?

Was He like other little boys,

Who liked to make a lot of noise?

Or was He quiet and quite sedate

With future things  to contemplate.

Did He have knowledge from His birth

Of His design upon this earth . . .

That He would be our Guiding Light

In teaching us to live life right?

I’m sure He knew, as time passed by,

That He would die for you and I,

Upon the cross at Calvary,

Fulfilling earthly destiny.

  HOME AT LAST

 (For Robbie )

The Heavenly Gates were open

          An Angel looked and smiled

For coming up the Golden Path

          Was a sweet innocent child

Heaven’s radiance seemed to beckon

          So the child entered in

The Angels plucked their harp strings

          And sang a lovely hymn

With tears of pain he brought from earth

          Still damp upon his face

The child stood in wonder

When he saw the Throne of Grace

And then his face brightened

As he ran to the Throne

Where in the Savior’s arms he felt

          The greatest love known

Then all his anguish vanished

          Through Heaven’s tender care

He knew Heaven was really home

          And he’d be happy there.

THE FAMILY’S LATEST STAR

A Poem for our Christmas Gift, my granddaughter, Holly Noel

She’s Grandma’s little darling

And cute as she can be

A very special little girl

On that we all agree

Perhaps I’m somewhat prejudice

Cause that’s how Grandmas are

I think she’s sweet and wonderful

And our family’s latest star

There’s a simple explanation

And a nice revealing key . . .

She’s everything the books say

A little girl should be

She loves to look feminine

In ribbons, lace, and bows

She’s a real little lady

From her head to her toes

She’s coy and she’s impish

Yet, that dear angelic face

Is a clue to her sweetness

And to her charm and grace

She’s giggles and good humor

She’s all hugs and kisses

She’s bouncy blond pony-tail

With charm that never misses

She’s a precious little sweetheart

And I can promise this!

She’s blessed us with her presence

Like Heaven’s sweetest kiss

          GOLDEN CURLS

Golden curls upon the floor,

He’s not a baby anymore.

His baby look went with that gold,

And Mama wept when she was told.

‘Twas Dad’s surprise for Mom and child,

To cut that hair and have it styled.

And when she saw her little lad,

She may have smiled but still felt sad.

If she could glue those curls in place

She’d frame them ‘round his little face,

Instead she puts them in a book,

And smiles at her small son’s new look.

THE HEART OF A CHILD

Little children love daisy-rings

        Huge truck tire swings

        Wet snowball fights

        June’s firefly lights

They love all gentle dogs and cats

        Baseballs and bats

        Pink bubble-gum

        A song to hum

They love the fun that summer brings

        Balloons on strings

        Ferris wheel rides

        Big swings and slides

And children love clowns and parades

        Small swaps and trades

        Kites that fly high

        Stars in the sky

They love to lick big ice cream cones

        To throw small stones

        To laugh with glee

        To climb a tree

They love blowing dandelion fluff

        Collecting stuff

        Making mud-pies

        Dozens of WHY’S

And children love to test and tease

        And hug and squeeze . . .

        Right from the start

        They win your heart

Children Love!
