Small fish should abide by the rules
And swim in their own fishy schools
But if they should tire

It’s a time of vernal promise

A time we all will share

Nature’s presenting her Spring Show

To be seen just everywhere

As trees awaken from slumber

From a winter much too cold

The last tenacious leaves of fall

Release their desperate hold

In the wake of April’s cool tears

Comes May with her golden smile

The air is filled with fragrance

As trees blossom forth in style

There’s new emerald carpeting

Replacing what winter browned

Crocus, iris, and daffodils

Poke heads from pungent ground

Vast panoramas of color

Are the hills, valleys and plains

The rivers and lakes overflow

Swollen by heavy spring rains

Tulips reach for the sun’s warm kiss

Stretching their long green necks

Busily building nurseries

Are wee feathered architects

Spring holds promise for each of us

With summer so close at hand

The sun, warm rain, and gentle breeze

Now awaken the land
