Cameos of Love

Soft fingertips of memory
In moments so sublime
Reach gently back into the past
Recalling by-gone time

On his sad lonely grave,
A yellow flower grows.
A teardrop catches sunlight
On the petal of a rose.

A Poet’s Heart

        A POET’S HEART

I gathered up dew-diamonds

From a silken-silver strand

And laid them on some moonbeam dust

Sprinkled in my hand.

I added gold the sun sent down

And a kiss the breezes blew,

Then put them in this little book —

That I might share with you.

To An Old Friend

While walking down a garden path,

a gentle breeze at play

cast lilac scent to fill the air.

            I thought of you today.

I heard a nest of fledglings

in a chorused display

and saw the mother’s tender care.

            I thought of you today.

I was kissed by the summer sun;

it chased the gloom away

and brought back memories of your smile.

            I thought of you today.

I saw a mother with her child,

and I watched them at play.

It took me back into the past.

            I thought of you today.

My mind was filled with acts of love,

in beautiful array.

Fond memories overwhelmed me when,

            I thought of you today.

Sounds I Love

The sweetest sound that one can hear

Is not a bird song, sweet and clear

Nor music played on stage somewhere

Or nature’s sounds upon the air

Enchanted sound heard every day

It’s children’s laughter while at play

Like temple bells on sacred ground

It’s golden  where a child is found

Its music sings sweet melodies

Of crystal notes and rhapsodies

I’d like to keep that laughter near . . .

The sweetest sound that one can hear

Just once in every lifetime

Someone comes along

And hearts then blend in harmony

With words to love’s sweet song

Just once in every lifetime

Two hearts fill special roles

And fall in love from the start

As destined kindred souls

Just once in every lifetime

A union’s meant to be

When those hearts join and beat as one

For all eternity

Emerging from your capsuled home

And hanging to its edge,

You soaked up the sun’s warm rays,

Then crawled to my ledge.

There you tested gossamer wings,

Then dipped in quick goodbye,

Your silent flight into the woods

Much softer than a sigh.

Blue box that has an open lid

            Blue ribbon peeking out

Blue letters that the ribbon tied

            Hold frequent words of doubt

Blue pages fill her diary

            Blue memories on her mind

Blue tears once filled her broken heart

For love o’er which she pined

Blue paper, torn and faded now

Blue words she penned in rhyme

Blue flowers now pressed dry and flat

            Came from a grievous time

Blue shawl that keeps her shoulders warm

            Blue shadows ‘neath her brow

Blue eyes so lively in the past

            Are clouded over now

Blue robe across her aching knees

Blue clasp in thin white hair

Blue veins in her old wrinkled hands

That hold the box with care

“Blue isn’t just a pretty hue,”

            She whispered of her past

Then slipped away to death’s blue deep

The blue box closed, at last
